MN Horticulture Class: Japanese Gardens

  • Bad Weather Taproom (map)

Once again we are partnering with the MN Horticulture Society for a class.

For many, the art of Japanese gardening and its techniques are a mystery veiled in secrecy. At this exclusive educational event, national Japanese garden designer John Powell will demystify Japanese-style garden design. With his lifelong travels to Japan, he has developed a deep sense of the unique qualities of Japanese gardens. He built a wildly successful career around his passion and now provides Japanese-style garden design, construction and maintenance. John will be discussing a brief history of Japanese garden styles, design techniques and aesthetics, featuring examples of these applications in Minnesota gardens and others throughout the United States and Japan. He is in town for one week only, and we are excited to have him! Join us for a beer or house soda and an inspirational evening at the Bad Weather Event Center.

Instructor: John Powell, owner of Zoen, LLC, designs Japanese-style gardens and serves as lead garden consultant for several public gardens throughout the United States, specializing in garden restorations and sustainable maintenance programs. A regular contributor to Sukiya Living magazine (a journal of Japanese gardening), John also presents for the North American Japanese Garden Association.
